In this month’s newsletter, we’re looking at what the incoming EUDR requirements could mean for Australian cattle producers, sharing practical ways to start preparing your feedbase for spring, and putting out the final call for pasture biomass records ahead of our annual TSDM model recalibration.

The European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) is getting closer, with the requirements set to begin applying from 30 December 2026 for large and medium operators.
For Australian cattle producers supplying into EU-linked markets, this means the ability to demonstrate that livestock have come from a deforestation-free supply chain will become increasingly important.
Cibo Labs is already working with producers and processors to help prepare for these changing requirements through our Farm Deforestation Assessments and Deforestation-Free Verifiable Credentials.
The Cibo Labs farm assessment process uses satellite-derived information alongside producer-supplied evidence, where required, helping establish a clear and verifiable assessment result that can be shared with participating supply chain partners as evidence when in market assessments flag deforestation that could be regulated land management.
The key message? Don't wait until your destined market assess' your farm - get your own assessment based on Australian conditions today.
Understanding your property's status now gives you time to identify and address any areas requiring further evidence before livestock move through the supply chain.

Cibo Labs and Desert Channels Queensland (DCQ) are heading to La Trobe Station, just south of Longreach, on Saturday 19 September for a practical producer event focused on pasture, grazing and land management.
The day will bring together practical tools, regional insights and on-ground discussion in a relaxed four-stage format, combining presentations in the shed with an interactive paddock walk.
We'll explore how producers can use the Australian Feedbase Monitor (AFM) and PastureKey to monitor their feedbase, along with how TSDM information can be used for forage budgeting, stocking decisions and understanding seasonal feed supply.
We'll also look beyond pasture monitoring, including automated reporting for ground cover and woody vegetation, as well as the changing industry landscape around deforestation-free reporting, EU market requirements and Accountability Framework initiative (AFi) standards.
DCQ will provide an update on local landscape projects, with guest speakers to be confirmed. Most importantly, the day is designed to be practical. There'll be plenty of opportunity to ask questions, see the tools in action and discuss how the information can be applied on-property.

These relaxed, practical sessions are an opportunity to bring local producers together to talk about pasture and grazing decisions, feedbase monitoring, land condition and the issues that matter in your region. Where possible, we combine discussion and demonstrations with time out in the paddock, so the day is relevant to local conditions and production systems encouraging other ag tech providers or guest speakers involved in your operation.

Spring is getting closer, and whether your planning is already underway or you’re only just starting to think about the season ahead, now is a useful time to take stock of your feedbase.
Understanding how much feed you have available, which paddocks have been grazed harder through winter and where more recovery may be needed gives you a clearer starting point as conditions begin to change.
Preparing for spring isn’t about predicting exactly what the season will deliver. It’s about being ready to respond. If pasture growth takes off, which paddocks will you graze first? If growth is slower than expected, how long will your existing feed last?
And when rain does arrive, it’s important to look beyond the rain gauge. Different paddocks can respond very differently to the same conditions, and an increase in greenness doesn’t necessarily mean there is immediately more feed available.
PastureKey provides paddock-level insights including TSDM, Fractional Cover, variability mapping and historical trends, helping you monitor how your feedbase changes and how individual paddocks respond as the season progresses.
You can’t control what spring will bring, but you can make sure you have the information you need to respond.

There’s still time to contribute to Cibo Labs’ annual TSDM model recalibration, but the 31 August deadline is fast approaching.
We’re calling on producers, advisors and data collectors to submit any pasture biomass records they have available. Every on-ground observation helps us test, refine and improve our satellite-derived pasture models across Australia’s diverse grazing landscapes.
Whether it’s a pasture cut or a visual estimate, every observation adds to the data behind our models and helps us continue improving the pasture information we provide to producers.
